Frequently Asked Questions

Where do we start (when we want to get married in Ireland)?

I suggest a conversation between you and your partner on date, location and budget. Depending on those and many other things of course you can make plans and arrangements for the wedding. For the official part you need to submit Intend to Marry to your local civil registration office. There is a 3 months advance notice requirement. For full details check out HSE website.

What is the Green Folder everyone is talking about?

Green folder is issued to you after you submit your Intend to Marry and all the required documents. It contains the important form that will be signed by you and your partner plus 2 witnesses and myself as the Solemniser.

Can we include the legal part in our ceremony too?

Yes I am registered with the HSE and can Solemnise your Marriage.

Do we need to come to you for the marriage ceremony?

We have a venue in Dublin City centre if you would like to hire it, but I can come to your venue so you and your guests don’t have to go anywhere else. That way, you can have your wedding and your reception in the same place.

Can we have the wedding at the weekend?

Yes, I have availability on weekend and weekday dates.

How long is a typical ceremony?

Around 25-30 min, but this all depends on your preference to include rituals and readings. We can discuss these requirements and create a ceremony to match.

What is a Solemniser?

Someone who can Legally Solemnise your marriage.

What type of Solemniser are you?

I am Entheos non denominational minister (don’t be put off by another official word). This allows me the freedom to cater for couples with all faiths or none and anything in between. For many years we were told what to believe and how to celebrate weddings. It is my mission to offer choice and personalised celebrations to suit your preferences. I am listed on the HSE Register of Solemniser as a Religious Solemniser as opposite to Secular. Don’t let this put you off if you are looking for secular ceremony. There are no mandatory religious elements from me. The religious category allows me to include religious elements should you wish or not

Are there any mandatory elements for the wedding ceremony?

The only mandatory part is the Declaration of no impediment to the marriage and that you accept each other as a legal spouse.

How much is the cost of the service?

My fee is €600 for the creation of the ceremony ahead of your day and the delivery of the ritual on your wedding day. If your wedding is in a venue outside of Dublin there is mileage fee of 0.4c/km.

How do we book your service?

When we have spoken and established that I am available on your wedding date and you can pay a deposit, so I can keep that date for you only. The deposit is €200. The outstanding balance of €400 plus agreed mileage if applicable is due in advance of your wedding.

How do we request a Marriage Certificate?

During the ceremony we will sign the Green Folder. Once the ceremony is finished you will keep that with you. I advise nominating someone, so you don’t have to think about it as it is very important document. You will need to return this to the Registrar within a month, so they can enter the details in the system and official registration of the marriage is noted. There you can order how many copies of the Marriage certificate you would like to receive for your personal records.
